Since you’re going to drive a motor you will want to use clamping diodes to avoid inductive spikes from the motor killing the output transistors in the chip. If you can only find the LNE you can add your own diodes.

If you are only using one motor, leave L pins 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 empty. The L is simplest and inexpensive for l293nw current motors, For high current motors, it is less expensive to build your own H-bridge from scratch. I see too, that the the D can only handle mA compared to 1A.

There is an L and an LD part number. Them D has built-in protection diodes. See notes below for a two Arduino pin solution. Each motor takes 3 Arduino pins.
